Nursing Home Silverware Project
Our designers developed this project as part of a larger team working with the AliMed Corporation to explore assistive eating utensil options. Responding to feedback from physical and occupational therapists working in nursing home environments, our designers created a kit from which utensils meeting a variety of different needs could be created. Because of the time and expense of ordering individual assistive utensils, nursing home residents often have to wait weeks for a single fork, spoon or knife. A nursing home with several of our kits can assemble a utensil in just a few minutes to meet any of a wide variety of needs.
